MCLEAN, VA — A man armed with a box cutter who is accused of threatening to kill CIA Director John Ratcliffe was stopped on Nov. 5 by police as he tried to enter the agency's headquarters in McLean, according to court documents.

Around 5:12 p.m. a silver Mercedes Benz SUV driven by Alimunuer Nuerkamali approached the main gate of the George Bush Center for Intelligence off Route 123 in McLean, according to an affidavit filed by the CIA police officer stationed at the gate. The SUV was directly behind an agency employee's vehicle.

Once that vehicle was cleared, Nuerkamali aggressively accelerated past the armed checkpoint, ignoring the officer's shouted commands to stop, according to the affidavit. The officer even struck the back of the Mercedes with his hand to get the driver's attention, injuring his hand in the process.

Additional CIA police officers responded to the checkpoint in marked and unmarked vehicles with their emergency lights activated. The Mercedes continued about 10 yards, but was blocked by the CIA employee's vehicle.

"If not for the employee’s car in front of him coming to a complete stop as a result of our commands, Alimunuer Nuerkamali would have, without authorization, continued driving on the CIA Headquarters compound," the officer said in the affidavit.

The officer approached the Mercedes and ordered Nuerkamali to turn off his vehicle and step out of the car. That was when the officer noticed Nuerkamali holding a box cutter in his right hand in front of his chest, the officer said. Drawing his firearm and pointing it at the driver, the officer ordered him to drop the box cutter.

“I am going to kill you; I am going to kill all of you," Nuerkamali said, according to the officer.

Once other officers approached the SUV with their firearms drawn, the suspect eventually dropped the weapon.

As the officers pulled Nuerkamali out of the car and put him into handcuffs, he screamed, “You all are about to die, I am going to kill your director, your time has come you’re all going to die."

As a precaution, an explosive detection canine swept the Mercedes, according to the affidavit.

While Nuerkamali refused to identify himself or explain why he had come to the CIA, an officer found a wallet in the SUV, which contained a Virginia identification card with a photo of the suspect.

Information from the card was used to search the CIA database of known personnel and prior unauthorized visitors, according to the affidavit. The searched confirmed that the name and date of birth matched Nuerkamali.

On Nov. 6, Nuerkamali was charged with making threats with the intent to impede, intimidate, or interfere with a federal official while they are performing their official duties, or to retaliate against them and willful and wanton disregard of signal or who attempts to escape or elude such law-enforcement officer, according to court records.

On Monday, Neurkamali appeared in the U.S. District Court for Eastern Virginia in Alexandria for a bond hearing, according to court documents. The motion for a bond was denied and Nuerkamali was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
