Matt Colsia Appointed To Replace Shivani Saboo On MCC Governing Board
Matt Colsia was appointed to the governing board of the McLean Community Center, replacing Shivani Saboo, who resigned earlier this month.

MCLEAN, VA— The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted to appoint McLean resident Matt Colsia to the McLean Community Center’s governing board. Colsia will replace Shivani Saboo, who resigned earlier this month due to a change in jobs.
Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust recommended to the Board of Supervisors that Colsia be appointed to the board.
The McLean Community Center’s memorandum of understanding with Fairfax County stipulates that if a vacancy occurs on the board, the unsuccessful candidate from the most recent board election who received the most votes will be appointed to the departing member’s unexpired term.

Colsia, who ran as a candidate for the McLean Community Center’s governing board earlier this year, received the fourth-highest number of votes. However, only three positions were vacant at the time of the election.
Colsia, a three-year resident of McLean, recently retired from the U.S. Army, where he held numerous leadership positions, the most recent as the specialty aero-medical staff officer for the National Guard headquarters in Arlington. He began his service at the McLean Community Center board meeting on Wednesday.

Saboo, who spent two years on the governing board, most recently served as treasurer and chair of the board’s elections and nominations committee. Her three-year term ends in June 2024.
“She championed programs for young adults and brought fresh energy and innovation to all the projects she was assigned to work on. She will certainly be missed, but we wish her all the best in her new endeavors,” McLean Community Center Executive Director Betsy May-Salazar said in a statement.
In the May election for three spots on the governing board, Kathleen Cooney Porter, Gloria Marrero Chambers and Katie Gorka were elected to the governing board. Cooney Porter received 1,047 votes, followed by 729 votes for Chambers and 629 for Gorka. Colsia came in fourth place with 582 votes.
The 11-member volunteer board establishes goals and aligns strategies for McLean Community Center programs and facilities, including the Robert Ames Alden Theatre and The Old Firehouse Center.
The McLean Community Center, located at 1234 Ingleside Ave. in McLean, is a special agency of Fairfax County government. Residents of Dranesville Small District 1A are eligible to vote in MCC elections.
