MCC Board Chair Honored With Distinguished Volunteer Service Award

MCLEAN, VA — Rasheq Rahman, the 2023-2024 chairman of the McLean Community Center’s Governing Board, recently received the Virginia Recreation and Park Society’s Distinguished Volunteer Service Award.

The statewide award was presented during VRPS’ 71st Annual Conference, which took place Sept. 14-17, in Norfolk. The event brought together more than 400 delegates, exhibitors, speakers and volunteers from across the state.

The highlight of the conference was the presentation of the Distinguished Volunteer Service Awards, which honor those who exhibited excellence in any of several areas during the previous year.

“This award is a testament to Rasheq’s unwavering leadership and strategic vision which is encompassed in all he has achieved on behalf of the McLean Community Center and the McLean community,” said MCC Executive Director Elizabeth May-Salazar, during a Sept. 25 governing board meeting. “It recognizes his steady leadership and forward-thinking efforts on developing MCC’s Strategic Plan, DEIA advocacy, community engagement, and work to improve MCC’s energy efficiency through an energy assessment of our facilities in coordination with Fairfax County. Rasheq has proven himself to be a visionary leader ensuring that as MCC approaches its 50th anniversary in 2025, we are well positioned to serve all district residents.”
