UPDATE: Several Thousand People At McLean Day, Neighborhood Streets Full

5:04pm. McLean Day is now closed.
Rides have stopped. Crowds are rapidly leaving the park. Chain Bridge Road from Westmoreland to Great Falls is now clogged with traffic.
Vendors are breaking now booths. The vendors must be out by 7 p.m.

2:49pm. At height of McLean Day. Traffic crawling on Chain Bridge Rd. Better: take Dolley Madison (Rte123) to shuttle location.
Very warm. Bring water.

1:20pm. More than 3,000 people are now at McLean Day in Lewinsville Park on Chain Bridge Road.
A Fairfax County police helicoper whirls above. There are lines for food. Lines for the rides.
The park is filled with families, friends.
"It's fun, It's the rides," said Shelley Collins, a McLean residents who comes annually.
"I see friends I know from school. Great food," Keely Copperthite, also a McLean resident.
The two Longfellow students were chowing down on funnel cake and frozen lemonade.
12:34pm. An enterprising ice cream truck has parked at the corner of Chain Bridge and Audmar Drive and he's doing a brisk business.
Neighbors streets are filling up with parked cars. Steady stream of families filling up the park.
Moving toward total traffic breakdown on the mile of Chain Bridge between Westmoreland and Great Falls Road.
ORIGINAL STORY: Hundreds of families, kids and visitors are already strolling, eating and playing at McLean Day under glorious skies and sunshine.
Traffic: Already backed up on Chain Bridge from Great Falls to nearly Westmoreland. Shuttle buses started running at 9 am. from various locations around McLean.
Vendors: Range from the CIA (see if you can find their unobstrusive table) to Sherwin Williams/Duron Paints to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
Dranesville Supervisor John Foust and the Fairfax County Democratic Party have adjacent booths. For Republicans: Del. Barbara Comstock has a booth diagonally across from Greater McLean Republican Women's Club.
What a difference a year makes --- last year you can't take three steps without running into a local politican. 2011 was a local election year.
Voting: Student candidates running for the McLean Community Center board will greet you at the entrance. McLean residents don't forget to vote.
