McLean High School Scores 9 Cappies Nominations For 'Claudio Quest'

McLean High School received nine nominations for "Claudio Quest" in the D.C. area high school theater's version of the Tony Awards.

MCLEAN, VA — McLean High School, the first high school to turn "Claudio Quest" into reality, received eight Cappies nominations for its production of the musical.

The prestigious National Capital Area Cappie Awards are considered the Tony Awards for high school theater in the D.C. region.

McLean High School's Cappies nominations for "Claudio Quest" include Best Musical; Best Special Effects and or Technology, Ethan Jones, Alessandro Martinat-Pillhaca and Megan Wright; Best Hair and Make-up, Emery Graninger, Addie Harris, Maia Le and Valentina Sedan; Best Sound, Dillon Prestidge, Emma Springer and Megan Wright; and Best Stage Management by Rebecca Sullivan.

Other Cappies nominations for the school's production of "Claudio Quest" are Featured Actor in a Female Role in a Musical, Franny Hemsley; Comic Actor in a Male Role in a Musical, Idíl Erdogan; Lead Actor in a Male Role in a Musical, Nathan Bass; and Best Song, "Platypus Heart."

"Claudio Quest," written by Drew Fornarola and Marshall Pailet, premiered in 2010 and in 2015, won six awards at the New York Musical Theatre Festival.

The students performed "Claudio Quest" from Feb. 10-12 at the Craighill S. Burks Theatre at McLean High School.

"With inspiration from the beloved Super Mario Bros game, the musical combines nostalgic visuals and sounds with lovable characters," Maryn Brown of Westfield High School wrote in a review of the musical.

Winners of the Cappies awards will be announced at the Cappies Gala on June 12 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in DC.
