McLean Planning Committee Elects New Officers

Winnie Pizzano, a retired federal worker, is the newly elected president of The McLean Planning Committee that makes recommendations on developments in downtown McLean.

She succeeds Ghassan Abukurah, a McLean architect, in the office which has a one-year term. Richard Salopek, a former MPC president and an architect, was elected vice-chairbat last week's MPC meeting.

Pizzano, who now works as a health care delivery consultant, lives in a neighborhood adjacent to downtown.

The MPC is comprised of sixteen members: Four each from the  surrounding Homeowner Associations,  the McLean Citizens Association, the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce, and the McLean Commercial Landowners Association (downtown business owners). MPC reviews proposed development proposals in the McLean central business district  and makes recommendations to the Dranesville District Supervisor.

Susan Bourgeois of the McLean Community Center Board stopped by to ask the MPC to appoint one of its members to the MCC's Downtown Committee, which she heads. She explained that the MCC has decided in May to proceed with plans to build a new building somewhere in downtown.

The MPC representative on the MCC Downtown Committee will be Ann Seaman.  Seaman serves as a representative of the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce.

The owner of a new business stopped by to ask the Committee's help with parking requirements for his new business at 6803 Whittier  Ave. at the corner of Linden Hurst.
