McLean Police District Sobriety Checkpoint Results: 665 Cars Screened, 1 DWI Arrest
Police say 7 summonses were a issued; driver was arrested for outstanding warrant; another was charged with possession of marijuana.
McLEAN, VA -- Several officers in the McLean Police District participated in a DWI checkpoint on Friday, from 11:15 p.m. to 2:15 a.m. In all, 665 cars were screened, with seven summonses issued, to include one DWI arrest, according to Fairfax County Police. Additionally, one driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant and another was charged with possession of marijuana, police said.
In other efforts to combat drunk driving in Fairfax County: Last Thursday, officers in another part of the County, from the Sully District Station and members of the Traffic Division, conducted alcohol beverage control (ABC) compliance checks at stores in the Sully District. This operation was part of an ongoing alcohol beverage control (ABC) enforcement campaign.
Fairfax County Police Department cadets, dressed in plain clothes and under 21 years old, entered ABC licensed stores without identification and attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages. The cadets were instructed ahead of time to provide their true age to any cashier who inquired. If the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages took place, a uniformed officer would place the appropriate charge.

In addition to the above arrests, a man outside a business in the 14200 block of Centreville Square offered to buy a cadet alcohol after the clerk refused to do so. The man was charged with purchasing alcoholic beverages for a person not entitled to possess.
