Police say a McLean resident, 33, struck a pole Thursday afternoon while driving down Lewinsville Road in McLean.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- A McLean resident was killed in a car crash Thursday afternoon in the McLean area, according to Fairfax County Police. FCPD Crash Reconstruction detectives are investigating the fatal crash that occurred around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Police were called to the intersection of Lewinsville Road and Lancia Drive for a crash of a car into a pole with live wires around the vehicle, police said.

An investigation by police determined a 33-year-old man was driving a 2003 Mazda 6 westbound on Lewinsville Road when his car left the roadway and struck a utility pole head-on, according to police.

Chad Cheatham, of McLean, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police say it appears that speed was a factor and the investigation is ongoing to determine any other circumstances that may have contributed to this crash.
