MCLEAN, VA — Monday was supposed to be the day when everyone returned to work or school following the New Year's holiday, but Mother Nature had a different plan for our region.

A winter storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service, with much of the area expecting 5 to 10 inches of snow on the ground. According to preliminary snowfall totals from the NWS, the Langley area had 6.4 inches reported at 1:30 p.m.

The storm forecast prompted Fairfax County Public Schools to cancel classes Monday and federal offices in the Washington, D.C. area to close, and Fairfax County government offices and many of its services to close.
