McLean Student Named Scholar In Regeneron Science Talent Search
Chelsea Hu, a senior at BASIS Independent McLean, has been named a scholar in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2024.

MCLEAN, VA — Chelsea Hu, a senior at BASIS Independent McLean, has been named a scholar in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2024.
Only 300 hundred students are selected from more than 2,100 entrants from 712 schools. Students were selected based on their research projects, essays, academic achievements, leadership skills, community involvement, and demonstration of creativity and promise as future leaders in STEM.
The Regeneron Science Talent Search is a science and math competition for high school seniors produced by The Society for Science.

Chelsea and the other students honored were awarded $2,000 and each school is awarded $2,000 for each scholar. She is one of 12 students from Virginia to be named a Regeneron Science Talent Search 2024 scholar.
The 17-year-old's project title was "Silk Fibroin Microspheres: An Innovative Approach To Improve Drug Delivery to the Lungs for the Treatment of Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome (NRDS)."

Other winners in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2024 from McLean were Arav Bhargava and Max Zeldes of The Potomac School.
“Congratulations to the top 300 scholars in this year’s Regeneron Science Talent Search,” Maya Ajmera, president and CEO of Society for Science and executive publisher of Science News, said in a statement. "We received a record-breaking number of applications this year; interest in this prestigious competition is at an all-time high."
In 2023, BASIS Independent McLean was named the best private high school and the best college prep private high school in Virginia for the second year in a row by Niche, a data analysis company.
The McLean school was also named the best private K-12 school in Virginia for the second consecutive year in Niche’s annual 2024 school ranking list. For 2024, BASIS Independent McLean was also ranked the No. 1 private high school in the Washington, D.C. area.
