McLEAN, VA — The Fairfax County Police Department announced Tuesday that it's investigating a construction accident in McLean, in which one individual died and another was seriously injured. The police described the younger victim as a juvenile male, but released no further details on him.

Officers and rescue personnel responded at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday to the report of an unidentified man and a juvenile who were trapped in a ditch that collapsed at a residential construction site.

The site is in the 1800 block of Solitaire Lane, near Old Dominion Drive and Kirby Road in Woodland Acres, a neighborhood of two-story, single-family homes (see map below). It's next to Little Pimmit Run, a stream that flows into the Potomac River.

Both the man and juvenile were extracted from the ditch and taken to a nearby hospital, the police said. The man sustained injuries that were not considered life threatening, but the juvenile was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy to confirm the cause of death, the police said late Tuesday.
