This week's traffic tangles throughout McLean and Tysons Corner brought to you by twin construction of the express toll (HOT) Lanes and the Metro construction.

I-495 south from Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) to Oak St. overpass - Three lanes closed Monday – Saturday nights for overhead sign and paving work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.

I-495 north from Oak St. overpass to Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) - Three lanes closed Monday - Saturday nights for paving, painting, and utility work.  Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.

I-495 south to Exit 49, I-66 west - Full or partial ramp closure Monday - Saturday nights for demolition. Detour for full ramp closure - Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 52B, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) east, stay to the right, follow signs to I-495 north and take Exit 49, I-66 west.

Overnight Closures of Eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway
 
Dulles Corridor Metrorail construction will close the eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway from Centreville Road (Route 657) to just east past the main toll plaza from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday, June 3, through Tuesday, June 5.
 
Traffic will be detoured from the eastbound DIAAH onto the eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) at Centreville Road. Motorists will use the Toll Road for the remainder of the route, through the main toll plaza. IMPORTANT: Tolls must be paid at the main toll plaza.
 
Eastbound Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) To Close Overnights June 6-8; Ramps Also Closing
 
Dulles Corridor Metrorail construction will close all lanes of eastbound Route 267 at I-495 next week for work on the aerial guideway that crosses the highway. Ramps from southbound I-495 and Route 123 onto Route 267 also will be closed. The closures will be from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Wednesday, June 6, through Friday, June 8 and will be implemented as follows:
 
Ramp from Eastbound Leesburg Pike (Route 7) to Eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) to Close Overnights June 3, 4
 
The ramp from eastbound Route 7 to eastbound Route 267 will be closed overnights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, June 3 and Monday, June 4.
 
Traction Power Substation Deliveries to Magarity Road Site Planned Next Week
 
Five large trucks  will deliver components of a traction power substation for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project to a site at the intersection of Magarity and Olney roads along the Dulles Connector Road in the McLean area. Deliveries will be staggered and spread over two days, beginning on or about Tuesday, June 5 and Wednesday, June 6.
 
On Monday, June 4, a large crane will be moved to the site to transfer the components from trucks to the substation site. Crews from Dulles Transit Partners, the contractor for the Metrorail, have been preparing the site for several years.
 
The work will impact daytime traffic as follows:

  • Five trucks will deliver components of a traction power substation components to their final location along Magarity Road, near the intersection of Olney Road, on or about Tuesday, June 5, and Wednesday, June 6. The crane that will lift the components into place will be delivered to the site on Monday, June 4, will be staged within the construction site through Thursday, June 7. 
  • The right lane of northbound Magarity Road, from Olney Road to Route 267 will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to accommodate the crane and component deliveries. Intermittent, 10-minute full closures of Magarity Road is required during each delivery to allow the crane to safely lift the individual components from the trucks and place them into the site. Police and flaggers will be onsite for traffic direction and safety.

Left Turns from Eastbound Route 7 onto Spring Hill Road to Close Overnights June 4-8
 
The left turn lanes from eastbound Route 7 onto Spring Hill Road will close overnights  from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, June 4, through Thursday, June 7, and from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Friday, June 8 due to work at the Tysons West Metrorail Station site.
 
Additionally, the left thru lane of eastbound Route 7 will be closed between Westwood Center Drive and Spring Hill Road during this time.
 
Left Turns from Westbound Route 7 onto Westwood Center Drive to Close Overnights
 
The left turn lanes from westbound Route 7 onto Westwood Center Drive to close nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, June 4, through Thursday, June 7, and from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Friday, June 8.
 
Caution: The left thru lane of westbound Route 7 will be closed from approximately 1500 feet east of Spring Hill Road and Westwood Center Drive during this time.
 
Turns from Route 123 onto Tysons Boulevard Closed Overnights Next Week
 
Turn lanes onto Tysons Boulevard from northbound and southbound Route 123 will be closed overnights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, June 4, through Thursday, June 7, and from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, June 8, because of Dulles Metrorail construction.
 
Detours around this closure will be in place. Drivers are advised to use extreme caution, pay attention to signage, and obey police direction if traveling around this intersection.
 
Right Turns from Route 123 South onto International Drive to Close Next Week
 
Concrete work at one of the tunnel ventilation buildings near Route 123 will cause the closure of two right turn lanes from southbound Route 123 onto International Drive. These lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, through Friday, June 8.
