Whiz Kids: Langley Dance Team to Orange Bowl, McLean Athlete Honored

Langley Dance Team Invited to Orange Bowl. The Langley dance team has been invited to dance at the halftime show of the 2013 Orange Bowl in Miami, according to the Saxon Scope, the Langley newspaper.

The team will perform a routine choreographed by Cris Judd, a choreographer known for his brief marriage to Jennifer Lopez. Judd has worked with Michael Jackson, Enrique Iglesias, Usher and ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, the Scope said.

McLean Athlete Honored. Scotty Lafoon Jr. was honored March 25 at the National Football Foundation National Capitol Chapter annual banquet. He was one of 29 winners of the 2012 Scholar Athlete Awards.

Accompanying him for the banquet was his high school varsity coach, Jim Patrick, assistant coach, Steve Moll and his youth league coach and past McLean Mustang commissioner, Steve Wilmer, as well as his parents and brother.

Science and Engineering Winners. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students earned top honors at the 57th annual Fairfax County Regional Science and Engineering Fair held last weekend at Robinson Secondary School.

Winning individual grand prizes were:

  • Gina Li of Langley High School in Environmental Management for Novel Apparatus for Catalytic Oxidation.
  • Jason Cui of Langley High School in Medicine and Health Sciences for Cancer Combination Therapy: Cordycepin Synergy.

Winning team grand prizes were: Kelvin Niu and Daniel Park of Langley High School in Biochemistry for Zinc-based Detection of Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma.
