Will Newt Gingrich Serve in Trump Cabinet?

NBC News reports that former House speaker, who lives in McLean, is being considered for secretary of state job in Trump Administration.

McLEAN, VA -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is being considered for secretary of state in a Donald Trump administration, according to NBC News.

Gingrich may also be under consideration for secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services job, Politico reports.

Gingrich was one of a handful of Republicans who publicly stuck by Trump's side during the tumultuous campaign and was also a finalist to be Trump's vice president. Gingrich appeared Wednesday night in an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity, saying:

"[A] Donald Trump [administration is] going to be among the most extraordinary, creative, inventive, exciting periods in all of American political history," Gingrich said. "Let [the 'Never Trump' movement] drift off into the ashbin of history while we go ahead and work with Donald Trump and with the House and Senate Republicans to create a dramatically new future."

A resident of McLean, Gingrich was the author of the Contract with America in the 1990s and is a former 10-term congressman from Georgia. A former university professor before running for Congress, Gingrich, 73, was born Newton Leroy "Newt" McPherson in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Gingrich changed his name when he was adopted by his mother's second husband.

Gingrich currently lives in McLean with his third wife, Callista Bisek Gingrich, 50. The couple married in 2000, and together they create public policy documentaries through their production company, Gingrich Productions. Gingrich is also an author and ran for president in 2012.

Regarding the secretary of state position and others being considered for cabinet positions in a Trump administration, a Trump spokeswoman told NBC News that "none of this is accurate."
