Women's Rowing Eight With McLean Olympian Gets 2nd Chance After Loss

VAIRES-SUR-MARNE, FRANCE — Team USA's women's rowing eight, which includes McLean resident Claire Collins, finished second in its heat in the Nautical Stadium-Flatwater event on Monday. Although the American women didn't win their heat, they still have an opportunity on Thursday to qualify for the finals.

Seven teams competed in two separate heats Monday evening, with Great Britain and Romania posting winning times of 6:16.20 and 6:12.31, respectively. This qualified them for Final A on Saturday at 4:50 a.m. ET

Heat 1

1. Great Britain - 6:16.20 - In Finals
2. Australia - 6:18.61
3. Canada - 6:21.31
4. Denmark - 6:39.30

Heat 2

• Romania - 6:12.31 - In Finals
• United States - 6:19.00
• Italy - 6:28.46

The five teams who lost on Monday will compete in the repechage on Thursday, giving them a second chance to qualify for Saturday's finals. The repechage is scheduled for 4:10 a.m. ET.

In addition to Collins, the women's eight rowing team includes Molly Bruggeman, Margaret Hedeman, Maddie Wanamaker, Regina Salmons, Meghan Musnicki, Olivia Coffey, Charlotte Buck, and Nina Castanga.
