Z-Burger's McLean Location Scammed By DoorDash Imposter: Reports

The McLean location of local fast food chain Z-Burger reportedly lost hundreds of dollars to a scammer claiming to be with DoorDash.

MCLEAN, VA — The McLean location of local fast food chain Z-Burger lost hundreds of dollars after a scammer claiming to be with DoorDash was able to connect to the restaurant’s account with the delivery service, according to reports.

Z-Burger owner Peter Tabibian told WUSA9 that a person impersonating a DoorDash representative Wednesday evening was able to get information that allowed the scammer to hack into his business's bank accounts.

The scammer had specific information that only DoorDash would have, such as the last several orders the McLean restaurant had with DoorDash, names of the people that placed the orders and who the drivers were for those orders.

"We own 12 restaurants, and we have friends and family that own over 50 restaurants, and they have been getting the same calls as we have," Tabibian told Fox5 DC. "They're basically calling from DoorDash. They have all the last few orders that the customer order, they know our last four digits of our account number, and basically they're saying that your tablet is not getting all of the orders it needs and you need to replace it with another tablet."

Z-Burger reported the incident to DoorDash’s fraud department and plans to notify the police and the FBI, according to Fox5 DC.

On Thursday morning, Z-Burger found a fraudulent charge for a $565 transaction on its bank account," WTOP reported.

Co-owner Kevin Ejtemai told WTOP that he and Tabibian felt obligated to warn other business owners, so they can avoid falling for the scam.

DoorDash, the food delivery platform founded in 2013, said it has spoken with Z-Burger about the scam but has not found any evidence of fraud or lost funds related to the Z-Burger business on the DoorDash platform.

"To further safeguard against unauthorized activity, we have implemented additional security measures on Z Burger’s account, effective immediately," DoorDash told WUSA9. "If any member of our community identifies unusual activity with their account, we strongly encourage them to reach out to DoorDash Support urgently, however customers should not be alarmed by this incident."
