Mount Vernon High School students participated in the opening of an exhibit.

Mount Vernon High School students recently participated in the opening of an art and writing exhibit of works by military connected students at the U.S. Department of Education headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Works featured in the exhibit are by the winners of a worldwide Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) arts competition.

“America’s Children” features 50 pieces of works from students based around the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Germany. A ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 3 featured remarks by Taylor Walton, MCEC Student 2 Student president at Mount Vernon High School; the Department’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Eric Waldo; Mary Keller, president and CEO of MCEC; and Patricia Shinseki, board member of MCEC. Following a presentation by the Marine Corps JROTC Color Guard from Mount Vernon High School, students from the school performed vocals, bagpipes and original poetry.
