ACS Honors Virginia Volunteer with the Volunteer Leadership Award

The 2020 recipient of the American Cancer Society's National Volunteer Leadership Award is Bruce Waldholtz, MD., of Virginia Beach, VA.

American Cancer Society is honoring an outstanding volunteer with the 2020 Volunteer Leadership Award, a national honor presented in recognition of distinguished service and leadership at the national level. The 2020 recipient is Bruce Waldholtz, MD., of Virginia Beach, VA.

The Volunteer Leadership Award is presented to volunteers who have provided distinguished service to ACS at all levels of the organization. Nominees must have guided a major project or program to its completion, served as a role model for other volunteers, represented the ACS before other groups in the community, demonstrated commitment, and is currently serving as an ACS volunteer.

We are fortunate to have him join us in the fight against cancer and proud to work alongside such a dedicated and visionary volunteer.” said Gary Reedy, CEO of the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Waldholtz exemplifies the passion and dedication of a community, regional and national level volunteer leader. He currently serves as a board member of the ACS CAN Board of Directors, the Virginia State Area Board of ACS Inc., and is involved as a community volunteer in the Hampton Roads market. In 2015, he served as the South Atlantic Division Board Chair. He has held several leadership positions at various levels of the organization throughout his 15-year involvement, greatly impacting both our mission and revenue development. He has a passion for our work in colorectal cancer and helped launch Colorectal Roundtable discussions at a national and statewide level. He serves as a regionwide subject matter expert and spokesperson on ACS screening guidelines. He is well versed in access to care issues and continuously seeks ways to engage community discussions to break down barriers.
