City Of Norfolk: Suspect Found Dead Following Domestic-Related Shooting On Hibie Street

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – The man responsible for a double homicide on Thursday afternoon that left a man, and a woman dead has also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On January 6, 2022, just after 4:00 p.m. police responded to a home in the 1500 block of Hibie Street for the report of a gunshot victim. When the officers arrived, they encountered a man, identified as Antonio D. Griffin, 38, of Norfolk, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Griffin was pronounced deceased at the scene.

When Officers went inside of the home, they found a woman who was also suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The woman, Antoninette Griffin, 37, of Norfolk, was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

As a result of their investigation, Detectives charged Eugene E. Ward, 41, of Norfolk, with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of use of a firearm; however, the suspect was found deceased around 9:45 a.m. on January 7, 2022, in the 600 block of Campostella Road.

Detectives have not released the motive or circumstances surrounding this shooting.
