Forefront Dermatology in Chesapeake to Offer Life-Saving Mohs Surgery

Chesapeake, VA – Forefront Dermatology is already expanding services just months after opening a clinic in Chesapeake. The physician-owned and led medical practice will add Mohs surgery for the removal of skin cancer starting in March. Appointments are currently being accepted.

Dr. Andrew Villanueva, a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, has joined the medical staff to perform the procedure. He earned his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine and completed his residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School Department of Dermatology. He specializes in identifying and treating high-risk skin cancers.

“As far as we are aware, this will be the first time that Mohs surgery will be available in the Chesapeake community,” said Dr. Villanueva. “No longer will patients have to travel long distances to receive this life-saving treatment.”

Mohs surgery is the most effective treatment for common, non-melanoma skin cancers. It involves surgically removing cancer layer by layer and examining the tissue under a microscope until healthy, cancer-free tissue around the tumor is reached.

Forefront opened its Chesapeake clinic in Nov. 2023 at 620 Grassfield Parkway, Suite 100, in the Cahoon Commons shopping center. The location is between Deep Creek South and Great Bridge. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
