1. Tolls increasing on South Norfolk Jordan Bridge (pilotonline.com) — Drivers who use the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge, including many commuting to and from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard area, will see tolls rise starting just after midnight on Dec. 31. New E-ZPass rates, higher pay-by-mail charges, and peak-hour pricing will affect two-axle vehicles and larger rigs crossing between Chesapeake and Portsmouth.
   

2. New VSP report shows big increase in hate crimes in Virginia (wtkr.com) — Norfolk residents are being urged to stay vigilant after crosses were spray-painted on a local mosque, an incident police are still investigating as a possible hate crime. The vandalism comes amid a sharp statewide rise in reported hate crimes, especially anti-Jewish and religiously motivated incidents, prompting local faith leaders and the FBI’s Norfolk office to push for more education and better reporting.
   

3. Scammers exploit holidays to target Dominion Energy customers with payment threats (13newsnow.com) — Norfolk residents are being warned about holiday-season scammers posing as Dominion Energy and threatening to cut off power unless you pay immediately by gift card or wire transfer. Company representatives stress they never demand payment over the phone, don’t take phone payments at all, and won’t show up without an appointment or proper ID. If you get a suspicious call, hang up and contact Dominion directly.
   

4. ECHL players, including Admirals, could strike Friday if labor deal not reached (wtkr.com) — Norfolk hockey fans could see the Admirals sidelined as ECHL players prepare for a possible league-wide strike starting Friday if a new labor deal isn’t reached. The Norfolk Admirals, currently struggling in the standings, would have games postponed and players risk losing pay, housing, and benefits while negotiations continue over salaries, travel conditions, and safety equipment.
   

5. Coeur d'Alene High grad serves aboard one of world's largest warships (krem.com) — A massive U.S. Navy aircraft carrier based in Norfolk is homeport for Petty Officer 3rd Class Jayden Brown, a young mass communication specialist from Idaho. Brown documents shipboard life and Navy operations while pursuing college studies, crediting lessons in adaptability and hard work for helping him thrive aboard one of the world’s largest warships.
