Trial in death of Navy sailor Resendiz set for June (wavy.com) — A high-profile military trial tied to Naval Station Norfolk is now set for June, as a sailor faces charges connected to the death of Petty Officer Angelina Resendiz, whose body was found near Broad Creek in Norfolk. A military judge heard 18 motions this week, denied a change of venue, and warned the court-martial could last the entire month with dozens of witnesses expected.
   

2. Man receives 2 life sentences for 2023 shooting in Norfolk (13newsnow.com) — A Norfolk man has been sentenced to two life terms plus 13 years for a 2023 shooting that killed a woman at Brambleton Avenue and Church Street and left another man paralyzed. Prosecutors say he targeted her after a prior shooting incident, and the case has raised concerns because he was previously granted bail in Norfolk General District Court despite objections.
   

3. Dedicated Salvation Army bell ringer surprised with Everyday Hero award (wtkr.com) — Shoppers around Norfolk may spot longtime volunteer Roby Blanenship ringing a Salvation Army bell, and his dedication just earned him a local Everyday Hero award. The broader celebration includes a massive public menorah lighting at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach, with music, kids’ activities, and a focus on sharing Hanukkah’s message of light and community.
   

5. ODU's Henicle takes over at quarterback as the Monarchs prepare for The Cure Bowl (13newsnow.com) — Norfolk-based Old Dominion University will head to the Cure Bowl with redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Henicle taking over after starter Colton Joseph entered the transfer portal and opted out. Coaches and teammates say Henicle has prepared all season as a co-starter and expect the Monarchs’ offense to stay on track in Orlando.
