• Updated Norfolk school consolidation plan details closures, redistricting (wtkr.com) — Norfolk families face major school changes as an updated 2025–2034 consolidation and equity plan details which campuses will close, merge, or be repurposed and when. The roadmap covers neighborhoods from Willoughby to Berkley, with the first closures starting in 2026–27 and redistricting decisions expected by March 2026, alongside promises of equity safeguards, staff retention, and extensive community input.
   

• SAIL250® Virginia Speaker Series:Virginia's Maritime History from the Underground Railroad to WWII (capecharlesmirror.com) — Norfolk residents can reserve free seats now for two Sail250 Virginia talks at Slover Library in early and mid-2026, spotlighting maritime links to the Underground Railroad and Naval Station Norfolk’s World War II role. The series, part of a larger tall ships festival coming to Norfolk in June 2026, brings nationally recognized historians and local scholars to downtown for in-depth, community-focused discussions.
   

• Navy destroyer USS Sherman home for the holidays after 7 months in Europe and Red Sea (whro.org) — Sailors aboard the USS Forrest Sherman are back at Naval Station Norfolk after a seven-month deployment, reuniting with families just in time for the holidays. The destroyer, which left Norfolk in May, will soon undergo a major modernization at BAE Systems Norfolk under a $139 million contract, bringing extended repair work and shipyard activity through 2027.
