The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command Expands Food Pantry to Better Serve Local Families
The Salvation Army's Portsmouth Corps To Increase Pantry Days

Portsmouth, VA (June 25, 2025) – The Salvation Army Portsmouth Corps, part of the Hampton Roads Area Command, is proud to announce the expansion of its community food pantry, a vital resource for local individuals and families facing food insecurity. This enhancement will allow the organization to serve more households, offer greater food variety, and operate with additional hours.
Clients will be able to receive fresh produce, dairy, proteins, and shelf stable items. “The food pantry is more than a place to pick up groceries, it’s a place of hope,” said Major Ronnette Smith, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army Portsmouth Corps. “Each week, we meet families who are working hard but still struggling to put food on the table. This pantry ensures they don’t have to face that struggle alone. It’s part of our mission to serve without discrimination and meet human needs with compassion and dignity.”
The pantry is now open every Thursday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM to serve residents of Portsmouth (any zip code) and Chesapeake (zip codes 23321 and 23323 only). The food pantry is located at The Salvation Army Portsmouth Corps, 2306 Airline Blvd, Portsmouth, VA 23701.
