SENTARA HEALTHCARE WILL JOIN THE ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S

Walk to End Alzheimer’s is World’s Largest Event Dedicated to Alzheimer’s Care, Support and Research

SUFFOLK, VA, August 8, 2023 – Sentara Healthcare will join the Alzheimer’s Association Southeastern Virginia as a 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s® Western Tidewater Promise Garden sponsor in Suffolk.

The Western Tidewater (Suffolk) Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on September, 30. On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people’s connection to Alzheimer’s — their personal reasons to end the disease.

“I am honored to represent Sentara as the Honorary Chair of the 2023 Western Tidewater Walk to End Alzheimer’s. As the president of Sentara Obici Hospital, I interact every day with people who are living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia” said David Masterson. “The Alzheimer’s Association provides many services to families that are currently living with Alzheimer’s. I’m excited to be a part of this event and to raise money and awareness for this great cause.”

More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Virginia alone, there are more than 150,000 people living with the disease and 354,000 caregivers.
