Guide to Fourth of July Fireworks in Northern Virginia

A listing of celebrations, shows in the greater Washington, D.C., area

You don't have to travel to see a good fireworks show this Fourth of July.

Plenty of Northern Virginia locations are hosting festivities of their own. Use our guide to plan your Independence Day.

VIENNA COMMUNITY CENTER

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Arts and crafts, food, chili cookoff, rides, antique and classic car show
2 p.m.: Family games

MAIN STAGE
12:15 p.m.: Ron Moody and the Centaurs play the oldies

CHILDREN’S STAGE
1 p.m.: Louis the Magician takes the Children's Stage

YEONAS PARK

5 p.m.: Seating begins
7 p.m.: Fireworks Pre-show by Fat Chance
9:15 p.m. Fireworks, sponsored by Air Treatment Company. Seating is available at Yeonas Park, with little seating available at ; Little League concessions will be open.

Parking is available in the Yeonas Park parking lot and two designated areas off of Ross Drive. No dogs, alcohol or glass bottles permitted. Handicapped parking available near Patrick and Cottage streets.

At 7:30 p.m., the following streets will close: Patrick Street, Patrick Circle, Ross Drive from Cottage Street to George Street, and George Street from Cottage Street to Ross Drive.

Parking is laso available at Cedar Lane School and Thoreau Middle School.

In the case of inclement weather, a rain date has been set for July 5.

RESTON TOWN CENTER

8 a.m.: Firecracker 5k presented by : A fast 5K loop around the Reston Town Center and local roads. Meet in the Pavilion. Cash awards; food and prizes following the race. A portion of race proceeds benefit the PR Award for Excellence. Registration and more infowww.prraces.com.
7 to 8 p.m.: 257th Army Band Community Performance in the Pavilion: Enjoy "The Band of the Nation's Capital" as they perform patriotic pieces. Free admission. Bring chairs and blankets to sit. 257armyband.com.

LAKE NEWPORT POOL

Noon to 4 p.m.: The Lake Newport Pool, at 11601 Lake Newport Road in Reston, will host a celebration that includes a DJ, contests, prizes and food available for purchase. The event will be canceled in the case of rain. Cost: Free, open to all.

LAKE FAIRFAX

7 a.m.: Lake Fairfax Park, at 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive in Reston, will open.
10 a.m. to 8 p.m.: The Water Mine usually hits capacity around noon. Vendors will be on hand with food and treats. Other attractions include pony rides, a petting zoo, moon bounces, field day family games, carousel and more.
9:15 p.m.: Fireworks display. 

Cost: Free to enter the park, some attractions have an associated cost.

GEORGE MASON HIGH

7 p.m.: Live music from Judo Chop will begin on the school's athletic fields
9:20 p.m.: Fireworks will begin (a rain date is set for July 5)

LANGLEY HIGH

8 p.m.: Grounds open to the public. Because of construction, the football field will be closed. Guests will be directed to the other practice fields and softball field for viewing the fireworks show.
9:15 p.m.: Fireworks show begins. 

Admission and parking are free. A free shuttle bus service will be available from St. John’s Episcopal Church (6715 Georgetown Pike) and MCC (1234 Ingleside Ave.), beginning at 7 p.m. A handicap-accessible bus will be available at both sites.

BREADY PARK

6:30 p.m.: Celebration begins with food, games and fun. Bready Park is at 814 Ferndale Ave., Herndon.
9:30 p.m.: Fireworks, which will be choreographed to music, will begin. Cost: Free, though some portions, such as food, will have an associated cost.

CLAUDE MOORE PARK

10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Claude Moore Park, at 51544 Old Vestal's Gap Road, Sterling, will offer pony and wagon rides, musical entertainment and historic tours. Other activities will include face painting, children’s crafts, nature exhibits, a Reptiles Alive shows, food and drinks and more. Cost: $5 per person for those 5 and older. Free for children 4 and under. 

IDA LEE PARK

10 a.m.: Leesburg’s Fourth of July celebration starts with a parade beginning at Ida Lee Park and traveling through downtown, down King Street.
6 p.m.: Ida Lee Park hosts a celebration with food and music.
9:30 p.m.: Fireworks display at Ida Lee Park.
