Indoor Track: Oakton Girls Top District Rankings

Boys place third in Concorde District Championship meet

The Oakton High girls indoor track team won its third consecutive Concorde District title Thursday, earning first place in five events.

The boys placed third, and Michael McNamee set the 1,000-meter run district record.

With this title, the girls running program (cross-country, indoor and outdoor track) has won seven straight district titles.

Both of Oakton's teams entered Day 2 in the lead. While the boys lost the lead to fall to third, the girls were able to hold onto theirs to win by 30 points.

*McNamee broke the Concorde District record set in 2001 by 2.81 seconds.

*McNamee and Chantilly runner Sean McGorty beat the Concorde District record set by Oakton graduate Phil Gaeta in 2002. McGorty took first place and set the new district record with a time of 4:15.29.
