On day one, readers were treated to three stories about Oakton High School's homecoming: one on the Cougar win over the Annandale Atoms, one on the marching band's support of the football team and one on homecoming overall. Other stories ready for readers on Oakton Patch's first day included the grand opening of ideaventions, Oakton Library's Used Book Sale, NewPath's plan to install more cell phone nodes, and a feature on the police Explorers program.
Also this week, the series of burglaries and related incidents continued, including a brash of incidents near Hunter Mill and Vale roads. Police explained details and offered advice to residents Wednesday night at a community meeting at Waples Mill Elementary School.
In sports, Oakton High's football team continued its undefeated season with a victory over Edison, and the Cougars' volleyball team struggled against Chantilly and went 1-1 in their own tournament. Flint Hill School's volleyball continues its hunt for another state title, and the Huskies' soccer team pulls out a tie against Maret.
