The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until 8 p.m. in the D.C.-metro area.

NWS predicts 2 to 4 inches of snow, but Fairfax County officials say the storm should miss the county. Residents planning to travel should be aware snowfall predictions are heaviest for the western part of Virginia and northern Maryland.

Accumulations should end by late afternoon. Power outages and hazardous traffic conditions are possible.

Though the storm may skip Fairfax County, residents might want to think about preparing for wintry weather now. Visit the county website for tips on snow removal, cold temperatures and wind chill, freezing pipes and plumbing, and more.
