90-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies After Crash in Alexandria: Police
Woman was hit by a car Monday night and police announced Wednesday afternoon she has died.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- A 90-year old female pedestrian has died after being hit by a car Monday night in Alexandria, police announced Wednesday afternoon. The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the pedestrian crash that occurred Monday near the 300 block of Yoakum Parkway in the City's West End (see map below).
The woman has been identified as Gertrude Klackner, 90, of Alexandria.
At about 7:11 p.m., police responded to the area, after Klackner was struck by a car. Initial investigation indicates she was crossing the street when a 51-year-old woman struck her with her vehicle, according to police. The driver remained on the scene. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Police did not say if Klackner was in a crosswalk at the time of the crash or if the driver is facing any charges.
