Alexandria Man Charged With Abduction, Attempted Rape: Police

WOODLAWN, VA — An Alexandria man is facing charges after an abduction and rape attempt in the Richmond Highway corridor, according to Fairfax County Police.

Around 12:46 a.m. on Thursday, officers responded to an abduction and sexual assault attempt report in the 3800 block of Roxbury Court in Woodlawn. Police say a woman was walking home when the suspect approached. The suspect had followed her, attacked her and attempted to sexually assault her in a wooded area. The victim fought back, and the suspect left the scene.

The victim was treated for injuries at the hospital. Fairfax County Police's Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division is providing assistance to the victim.

Police initially searched the area but were unable to find the suspect. Major Crimes Bureau investigations identified the suspect as Wuilver Mauricio Hernandez Garcia, 36, of Alexandria. Detectives obtained warrants to charge him with abduction with intent to defile, attempted rape, and strangulation.

Hernandez Garcia turned himself in on Saturday. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held without bond.
