Republican Party Sets Canvass for Thursday

The 45th District Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia has issued a call for a party canvass for Aug. 2.

The event is being organized to nominate a Republican candidate for the state delegate's office .

Candidates for the GOP nomination must file a written statement by mail, email or in person to Committee Chairman Heath Wells, 1301 Queen St., Alexandria, or heath.wells.esq@gmail.com, by Wednesday at 5 p.m. If only one candidate files, then that candidate will be declared the Republican nominee and no canvass will be held.

Wells told Patch on Tuesday that as many as three Republicans were seeking last-minute approvals from their employers and families to enter the race. 

The canvass is currently scheduled to be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at:

• The Minnie Howard Campus of , 3801 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria
• The Springfield Victory Center, 6320 Augusta Dr., Springfield.
• The Arlington County Republican Headquarters, 405 S. Glebe Rd., Arlington
