Alexandria Hotels Offering Discounts to PG County Residents Facing Water Restrictions

While a water shutoff in Prince George's County, Md., has been averted, water restrictions remain in effect until water main is repaired.

Several Alexandria hotels are offering discounts to assist the thousands of Prince George’s County, Md., residents affected by the ongoing water restrictions.

During the water emergency, Alexandria is offering a complimentary “Key to the City” booklet to Prince George’s residents. Included in the booklet are restaurant discounts, free admission tickets to historic sites and more. The coupon book is available at the Alexandria Visitor Center at Ramsay House, located at 221 King St.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission issued the water restrictions Tuesday after discovering a portion of a 54-inch water main was in imminent danger of failing and needed repair.

On Wednesday, WSSC officials announced a water shutdown was averted but that the restrictions on usage will remain in place for the next several days, according to Upper Marlboro Patch.

“Until we actually excavate the pipe and we know what we have to deal with, we won’t know when this thing will end,” Gary Gumm, the WSSC’s chief engineer, told the utility’s board Wednesday morning, according to The Washington Post. “We’re hopeful we’ll keep it down to the lower end of the spectrum, but until repairs start, we just won’t know.”
