Alexandria Office of the Arts Invites Community to Family Art Night

The First Friday: Family Art Night event will be held Oct. 7.

Are you looking for a memorable and inspiring evening with your family? Plan to attend the “Family Art Night,” sponsored by the Office of the Arts, on Friday, Oct. 7, 6-8:30 p.m. at the Durant Arts Center, 1605 Cameron St. A “meet and greet” begins at 6 p.m. Pizza, soda and water will be on hand, compliments of the Office of the Arts. Art activities begin at 6:30 p.m. Advance per person reservations are $5 for residents, $10 for nonresidents. At the door, fees are $10 for residents, $15 nonresidents. No experience is necessary. Children must be accompanied by one adult.

Reservation includes one art experience, art supplies, pizza and soda. You have three art experiences to choose from.

Paint with Teresa Brunson is open to age 5 and up with adult. Do you love to paint? No experience is necessary. Teresa will guide you through painting your very own masterpiece. Take your masterpiece home at the end of the evening. Limit is 60 people (255201.04).

Create mosaics with Patrick Kirwin, open to age 6 and up with adult. Design a mosaic trivet that you can give as a gift or use in the kitchen. Limit is 20 people (255201.05).

Construct Cardboard Games with Upcycle Creative Reuse Center is open to age 7 and up with adult. Kids of all ages are invited to build something amazing out of cardboard, recycled materials and imagination. Celebrate your creativity and build an arcade or board game, and then plan to share the game with Family Art Night participants (255201.06).

Create Poetry Pictures with Wendi R. Kaplan, poet laureate, City of Alexandria, open to age 7 and up with adult. Join Wendi R. Kaplan in creating word pictures of people, places and things! Wherever our imaginations go, we can go! Sharing our poetry will be part of the fun. Limit is 20 people (255201.07).

Payment can be completed through the city website. Search the appropriate activity code.

The “Family Art Night” is part of the “First Fridays” Series. The Series is a project of the Office of the Arts, a division of the Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities.
