Alexandria Police Stepping Up Enforcement Efforts This Week

An increased police presence will be seen around town this week as many area kids head back to school.

The Alexandria Police Department will be increasing enforcement as many area students return to school on Tuesday.

Additional police and parking enforcement officers will be assigned to enforce all traffic laws, including speeding, passing school buses, illegal parking and failing to yield to pedestrians.

Enforcement will be increased in and around school zones and along bus routes. The speed limit in school zones is posted at 15 or 25 mph.

Police are also reminding drivers that it is illegal to pass a stopped school bus with its lights flashing. This action is considered reckless driving and is subject to fines.
