Alexandria Police to Conduct DWI Check
Checkpoint will begin Friday at 10 p.m. and continue through 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Alexandria police on Friday will conduct a DWI checkpoint to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers.
The crackdown will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue through 6 a.m. on Saturday, according to a news release from the police department's Public Information Office.
Police will stop motorists and check to ensure that drugs or alcohol have not impaired their abilities to drive.

The maximum penalty in Virginia for the first conviction for driving under the influence is 12 months in jail, a $2,500 fine and a 12-month suspension of driving privileges.
Additionally, there are mandatory jail terms associated with these offenses, depending upon the blood alcohol content of the driver. Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles administrative fees may apply as well.
