Alexandria Public Schools Change Feb. 12 Schedule Due To Storm
With Alexandria and the rest of the region under a winter storm warning, the school schedule for Feb. 12 will change.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Public schools in Alexandria will be closed Wednesday due to the winter storm, but it won't be a traditional snow day.
Alexandria City Public Schools will have a synchronous virtual learning day for students. Staff will participate in a virtual workday. Teachers will provide live synchronous instruction via Zoom, and students will also have independent work time. Teachers will have virtual office hours. Attendance will be taken through Clever and Canvas. Families can check their student's Canvas or Clever account by 8 a.m. Wednesday for schedule details.
According to Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt, students in grades 3 to 12 should have their learning devices at home with them. No new content will be taught and grades will not be assigned on virtual learning days.

All essential personnel, including building engineers, custodians, maintenance shop employees and security staff will report to work if safe to do so. Employees should get direction from their supervisor.

Meals for children under 18 will be served for free from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Alexandria City High School, 3330 King Street - Door #34, John Adams Elementary School, 5651 Rayburn Avenue - Door #7.
Alexandria and the rest of the region are under a winter storm warning from 1 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service said. Forecasters are calling for 4 to 7 inches of snow Tuesday, as well as significant icing Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Moderate to heavy snow will continue through Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service said. Snowfall rates around 1 to 2 inches per hour are expected. The heavy snow will combine with falling temperatures and rapidly stick on all surfaces during the evening commute and Wednesday morning's commute.
