Alexandria Public Schools Make Weather Decision For Third Day
Winter weather continues to impact Alexandria City Public Schools, delaying the in-person return from winter break.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The return from winter break has been delayed once again at Alexandria City Public Schools.
For a third consecutive day, ACPS will close schools and offices on Wednesday, Jan. 8. However, asynchronous learning will occur, with students completing activities without live instruction. There will be virtual teacher office hours.
"Throughout the day, we have been monitoring road conditions, and we are aware that some roads are not completely cleared around the region," said Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt. "We continue to be concerned about the safety of staff and students. We also know that staff travel from around the region to and from school buildings and may be unable to travel safely to work tomorrow."

Because students in third through fifth grade may not all have devices at home, parents or guardians will be notified via ParentSquare.
Staff will have a virtual work day, depending on their assignments and locations. Supervisors will provide more information. Essential personnel, including building engineers, custodians, maintenance shop employees and security staff, must still report if safe to do so and should contact their supervisor.
