Alexandria School to Close Early Due to Power Outage

The school said they will be sending students home at 10 a.m. Friday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- School officials are sending students from John Adams Elementary School home early Friday due to a power outage, according to an alert sent out by the school system Friday morning.

The City sent out this message at 10:38 a.m.:

This morning, John Adams Elementary School was required to send students home at 10 a.m. due to a general area power outage. Students who were not picked up by their parents or guardians or given permission to ride the bus were taken to William Ramsay Elementary School.

Students can be picked up from the lobby of William Ramsay Elementary School after 11 a.m. today. No student will be dismissed during the regular school day without a parent or guardian present to pick them up.

The elementary school will send students home at 10 a.m., according to an alert sent out at 9:37 a.m.

The alert noted that there is a "general power outage" in the area.

A Dominion Power outage map only shows one customer out in the area of the school. The outage map notes that power should be restored by 1 p.m. at the latest. Temperatures Friday are expected to hit 96 degrees in Alexandria.
