Fireworks Still On for Alexandria's 264th Birthday Celebration Saturday
Looking for another fireworks display? Head down to Oronoco Bay Park on Saturday, July 13.

Update - 8:30 p.m. July 13
A 10-minute summer downpour sent thousands scrambling to nearby garages and other shelters around 8 p.m.—and though many decided to go home, hundreds returned to Oronoco Bay Park for fireworks and birthday cake Saturday evening.
The fireworks are still scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

Didn’t get enough fireworks over Independence Day?
The City of Alexandria—which is 27 years older than the United States—will celebrate its 264th birthday from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 13 at Oronoco Bay Park with musical entertainment, refreshments and those always-impressive fireworks.
Admission is free to the event, which will feature a concert by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra at 8:30 p.m. and culminate with a fireworks finale featuring Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” with canon support by the United States Marine Corps Basic Training School beginning at 9:30 p.m.
Should it rain, fireworks only will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 14 at 9:30 p.m.
Other kids activities, community exhibits and, of course, birthday cake will also be on hand. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are welcome and some food will be for sale at the event.
Attendees are encouraged to bike, hike or take public transit. The King Street Trolley will operate until midnight to the King Street Metro station.
Nearby parking garages are located at 700 N. Fairfax St. as well as 44 Canal Center, which is offering a special $5 fee.
Oronoco Bay Park is located at 100 Madison St. along the Potomac River.
