Alexandria's Last Early Voting Day Gets Most Voters In November Election
Alexandria saw the most early voting turnout on the last day of early voting in November's election with federal and local races.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — With president, mayor city council and more on the ballot, voters turned out in numbers for early voting.
Alexandria's Office of Voter Registration and Election reported 4,089 early votes on Saturday, Nov. 2, which was the last day residents could vote early in person. The second-highest day was Saturday, Oct. 26, with 2,896 votes.
Those two days had four early voting locations open. The George Washington Middle School and Minnie Howard Campus locations were open on Oct. 26 and 27 and Nov. 2. The elections office has been an early voting location since Sept. 20, and Charles Beatley Central Library has been one since Oct. 21.

Overall, the elections office said 36,363 people have voted early in person. There were 14,320 mail-in ballots sent by the elections office, and 10,588 of these have been returned. The deadline to return mail-in ballots is 7 p.m. on Nov. 5, or postmarked by Nov. 5 and received by noon on Nov. 8.
Mayor Justin Wilson noted in a tweet that the 36,363 early in-person voting total was just below the 36,533 total in 2020.

General elections with presidential races tend to get higher turnout than other election years. In the November 2020 general election, turnout was 78.95 percent (82,773 of 104,839 registered voters). The November 2021 election with Virginia governor, Alexandria mayor, City Council and more state and local races generated 60.73 percent turnout (58,485 of 96,302 registered voters).
