Committee Favoring a 'More Bikeable' City Meets Aug. 20

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee will discuss possible bike lanes on Slaters Lane and set out for a group ride of local historic sites on Aug. 18.

For Alexandrians interested in getting involved and learning more about efforts to make the city more bikeable and walkable, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee meets every third Monday of the month at the

This month, on Aug. 20, attendees will discuss bike lanes they hope to see on Slaters Lane, their latest outreach events and other things. These meetings are open to the public.

The group is also offering a group ride on Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. leaving from Del Ray after meeting outside of .

BPAC also offers regular, group rides. It August bike ride will be a slow moving 10-mile tour of historic sites. Participants will see , the first national military cemetery, the tomb of the unknown Revolutionary War soldier and more. The ride will finish at the , where cyclists can linger to read all the new interpretative signs. There will be a lot of riding on low volume, slow traffic streets and a discussion of safe riding practices before the group heads out.
