D.C. Motorcyclist Killed In Beltway Crash In Alexandria

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash where two other vehicles were struck on the Capital Beltway, according to state police.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A motorcyclist died in a crash with multiple vehicles on the Capital Beltway in Alexandria Saturday, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash happened around 1:57 p.m. Saturday on westbound Interstate 495 at the 177-mile marker, which is near the Route 1 exits. State police say a 2012 Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle heading west on the Beltway struck the rear driver's side corner of a Toyota 4Runner. The motorcycle bounced off the Toyota and struck the back of a third vehicle. The motorcycle and its driver were thrown onto the left shoulder and struck the jersey wall.

The motorcyclist, Michael A. Dart, 20, of Washington, D.C., was taken to the hospital and died of his injuries. Police say Dart was wearing a helmet.

The Toyota driver was not injured. The third vehicle did not remain at the scene, and the vehicle make and model are unknown.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
