ALEXANDRIA, VA — A driver has been identified and charged in a crash injuring a teen pedestrian and nearly striking students outside an Alexandria school in October 2023.

Zsavon Walters, 29, a non-city resident, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force last Thursday. He was charged with malicious wounding and hit and run with personal injury.

On Oct. 4, 2023, Alexandria Police said a hit-and-run striking the pedestrian happened around 3:02 p.m. A Penske truck struck the 15-year-old boy at Montgomery and North Patrick Streets. The teen was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the hit-and-run, police say the driver went to the back of George Washington Middle School, nearly striking students. A school resource officer drew his weapon to stop the driver from moving toward the students. The driver drove off, and one of the students were injured. The school resource officer and other officers pursued the vehicle but lost sight of it.

The incident caused George Washington Middle School to enter "secure the building" status as a precautionary measure. No one was allowed to enter or leave the building briefly, but normal operations resumed about 10 minutes later.
