Early Release Thursday for Alexandria School Due to Gas Leak
ACPS sent out an alert Thursday afternoon about the early release.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Students at Jefferson-Houston will be sent home early Thursday due to a gas leak at the school, according to Alexandria City Public Schools. The school is located at 1501 Cameron St. in Old Town Alexandria.
Here's the message posted to the ACPS Web site at 12:30 p.m. Thursday:
"All students at Jefferson-Houston School are being released early today, due to a natural gas leak detected in the vicinity of the building. Families will be contacted by their teachers to work out a plan for each child. Students will be fed lunch. All after-school activities and back-to-school night are canceled.

The Fire Department is currently on the scene and all students have been evacuated safely and accounted for. If you are planning to pick up your child If you have arranged with the teacher to pick up your child, please do so before 1:00 p.m. from the playing field on Cameron Street.

Parents and guardians can also pick up their child from George Washington Middle School after 1 p.m. No child will be released without being signed out by a parent or guardian. After 1:00 p.m. all students will be transported to George Washington Middle School and will remain there for the rest of the day. All after-school activities are canceled at Jefferson-Houston School.
Unavailable to pick up? After 1:00 p.m. all students will be transported to George Washington Middle School and will remain there for the rest of the day. Buses will be available to take students home from George Washington Middle School at the usual dismissal time of 2:35 p.m. for Jefferson-Houston students."
