VIRGINIA — Slushy snowfall wrapped up Monday morning, but colder temperatures will linger this week with strong winds buffeting Northern Virginia as the week begins, according to the National Weather Service's forecast.

Wind gusts as high as 31 mph are predicted on Monday, but skies will be clear throughout the week.

"Except for the mountains, skies will become sunny today. It will be much cooler however, with afternoon highs only 35-45 for most, and chilly winds gusting 30 mph," the NWS said Monday morning. "Chilly, but less wind Tuesday."

A hazardous weather outlook is for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia through Monday night.

The outlook includes the District of Columbia, Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 43. Breezy, with a northwest wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 28. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph after midnight.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 47. South wind 3 to 8 mph.

Tuesday Night: Clear, with a low around 32. West wind around 8 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 27.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 42.

Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 28.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 50.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 33.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 51.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33.
