Graf Kicks Off Bid for Alexandria School Board
Del Ray resident and parent Karen Graf hosted a party for parents, community members and kids to kick off her bid for School Board.
Karen Graf kicked off her bid for School Board on Sunday afternoon, saying performance, process and persistence are key to improving Alexandria’s public school system.
Graf, a resident of Del Ray, said it’s time to turn a spotlight on Alexandria City Public Schools’ central office and better examine which programs are priorities.
“We need to establish a timeline of change versus the amount of time needed for success,” she said, speaking to a room full of supporters, parents and their children.

“We need to establish a process for selecting and implementing programs,” said Graf, whose children attend schools in the public school system. “We need to give programs time to mature. We need to work hard and be collaborative,” she said.
She told Patch that one of the reasons she was prompted to run was her concern over the way ACPS has been handling the modified calendar changes at and elsewhere. “The communication could have been better,” she said.
