Happy Birthday Alexandria! Symphony to Perform Free Concert with Fireworks July 9

Alexandria will celebrate its 267th birthday with a free concert on the waterfront Saturday, July 9.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra will present its annual pops concert Saturday, July 9, as part of the City of Alexandria’s 267th Birthday Celebration.

Free and open to the public, the event begins at 5 p.m. and the concert by the orchestra will take place at 8:30 p.m., with highlights from the upcoming 2016-2017 season. At 9:30 p.m., the orchestra will provide the soundtrack to Alexandria’s spectacular fireworks display with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, movie themes and patriotic favorites, conducted by Maestra Victoria Gau.

Victoria Gau, Guest Conductor

Lauded by critics for her “strong sense of style and drama” and her “enthusiastic and perceptive conducting,” Victoria Gau is associate conductor and director of Education for the National Philharmonic, artistic director and conductor of the Capital City Symphony and co-founder and artistic director of the Takoma Ensemble. She is the former conductor and music director of the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra in Richmond.
