Updated: Alexandria Is Looking Good at 263 Years Old

The city will celebrate its birthday with fireworks and more on July 7 in Oronoco Bay Park.

July 6 update — Saturday's celebration will begin at 7:30 p.m. as opposed to 4 p.m. because of the expected high temperatures.

The City of Alexandria will celebrate its 263rd birthday on July 7 from 4 to 10 p.m. in .

The free festivities include musical entertainment by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra as well as fireworks at 9:30 p.m. accompanied by Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture with cannon support by the U.S. Marine Corps' Basic Training School in Quantico, Va.

Should it rain, fireworks only will be rescheduled for July 8 at 9:30 p.m.

Other kids' activities, community exhibits and, of course, birthday cake will also be on hand. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are welcome and some food will be for sale at the event.

Attendees are encouraged to bike, hike or take public transit. The King Street Trolley will operate until midnight to the King Street Metro station.

Nearby parking garages are located at 700 and 601 N. Fairfax St. as well as 44 Canal Center which is offering a special $5 fee.
