Meghan Baroody to Open Meggrolls Restaurant in Five Guys Location on N. Fayette Street

Meggrolls, which was helped with a successful Kickstarter crowdsource funding campaign, will take over the Five Guys hamburger spot.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- There's a restaurant shuffle going on in Old Town Alexandria. Meggrolls, a catering and food truck business specializing in eggrolls, by owner Meghan Baroody, will make the move to brick and mortar, moving into the 107 N. Fayette spot currently occupied by Five Guys, the extremely popular hamburger joint. Five Guys is currently renovating a second and much larger location in Old Town, the old Bertucci's, eyeing a November opening date.

Baroody raised money for her new venture on Kickstarter, raising $26,300 from 184 backers, surpassing her goal of $25,000 in February. Baroody has filed paperwork with the City to move into the location on N. Fayette Street and mentions a Spring 2017 opening on her Kickstarter page.

"Not only am I overwhelmed with excitement, but I am also grateful that the first Meggrolls storefront will be in the very place I have always called home," she said to supporters on Kickstarter. "This town has given Meggrolls the support it needs to flourish and thrive as a business, a brand, and a unique concept."

She plans to serve lunch and dinner as well as continue catering operations at the N. Fayette location. In addition to offering a variety of eggrolls, menu plans at the restaurant call for coleslaw, chili, french fries and small pies, as well as beer and wine. The application to the City says plans call for possible video games and live music (guitarist) at the restaurant. There will be seating for 28 inside and a dozen outside.

No word on a closing date for the Fayette Street Five Guys, but the company will continue its presence in a big way in Old Town. The new Five Guys restaurant under construction at the former Bertucci's location on King Street is eyeing an opening date of Monday, Nov. 28, according to company spokeswoman Lauren Lewis.

At 5,900 square feet, the King Street location of the popular burgers and fries chain, which got its start in 1986 in Northern Virginia, will be more than twice the size of most Five Guys eateries, according to Lewis, senior communications manager for the company.

At its new location, Five Guys plans to have 83 seats inside and seating for 12 outside on the N. Columbus side in Old Town. The new store is hiring.
